MasterChef Season 16 Episode 4

After another great round of auditions last week, which also taught me a lot about African Cuisine, it was time for the final round of auditions with contestants representing The Americas! To clarify, when I say The Americas, I mean every part of it. The United States, South America, Venezuela, Mexico, Barbados, and Jamaica.  Much like the other three Audition Episodes, the judges gave out five aprons among eight home cooks that were auditioning, except these were the last five aprons of the whole competition.  The first home cook auditioning was Tkaiya, who was from Jamaica, New York and was representing the island of Jamaica. The dish that she chose to make was Pineapple Glazed Jerk Chicken with Sweet Potato Puree. This is absolutely a dish that I would be willing to try. I mean seriously, have a look at it below.  When she finished plating her dish, there was just one problem. She forgot to plate the Pineapple Glaze.  The judges immediately commented that the dish...

After another great round of auditions last week, it was time for the third round of auditions for the contestants representing Africa! I’m going to be completely honest with all of you reading right now: before the episode aired, I had very little familiarity with African cuisine. I have never been to any African restaurants, and very few of the cooking shows that I watch had challenges where contestants had to make African dishes. So, I was going into the episode with absolutely no idea of what to expect in terms of what foods would be made, but I was also really curious and excited to learn about African cuisines.  Much like with the other two audition episodes so far this season, eight contestants were auditioning for an apron in the episode, and only five would get one.  The first home cook auditioning was Nadine, who was representing Sierra Leone, and the dish she made was a Peanut Butter Soup with Chicken Coconut Curry and Rice. For those of you that don’t know, Peanut ...

After a great premiere last week with auditions from contestants representing Europe, it was time for the second round of auditions for contestants representing Asia-Pacific! For those of you who are wondering what it means, Pacific is referring to Australia. And that piece of information will become important momentarily.  Once again, there were only five aprons up for grabs on this episode, and eight contestants auditioning, and they needed to get a “Yes” from all three judges in order to get an apron.  The first home cook auditioning for an apron was Lawrence, who was 69 years old, from Missouri, and representing Australia. See what I meant by that piece of information becoming important momentarily? His dish could not have been more representative of Australia if he tried, as he cooked, and I am not making this up, Kansas City Barbecue Kangaroo with Mango Sauce, Passion Fruit Vinaigrette Slaw, and Yuca Fries. Yes, people actually cook and eat Kangaroo. I am just going to s...

MasterChef Season 16 Episode 1

Hello everybody! I said that I was going to create a blog dedicated to MasterChef, and now the time has come to start talking about it! Before I get into the episode, I am going to explain how this season will work. The theme of this season is “Global Gauntlet,” and will have 20 home cooks competing from all over the country, but there’s a twist. They will all be representing one of four territories: Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and The Americas, with five home cooks representing one each. The reason why this was done is because of The World Cup coming to America this year and being broadcast on Fox. The episode opened the same way every other season opens: with a montage of several scenes that will be happening at several different points this season. Much like always, it showed scenes with absolutely no context, some of the low points of the season, and some of the high points of the season, and it also showed that past contestant Nick DiGiovanni would be making a guest appearance a...

An Introduction To This Blog

Hello everyone!  As you are probably aware, The Masked Singer Season 14 Finale aired last week. I obviously loved it, but as soon as it was over, I realized something. I had no idea what I could write about next. I couldn’t just write about upcoming events and cool and interesting places, as that will become boring to me if it’s the only thing I write about. And I am currently in a place of uncertainty with both of my favorite shows, The Masked Singer and Match Game.  With regards to The Masked Singer, they have not announced a Season 15 yet, but I still think it’s pretty likely, but we are currently in April, and best case scenario, the show returns in the fall, worst case scenario, the show returns early next year, and even worse case scenario, it never comes back. That’s just my way of saying that writing about hypothetical contestants and whatever else occurs to me is just not possible for me over this long period of time, as I will almost certainly be scrambling to come u...
